
Workshops at the Atelier
At Texas Hill Country Atelier, we offer several different workshops each year. Our 2026 schedule is in progress, but you may get a preview, below. You do not have to be enrolled in the Core Atelier program in order to register for a workshop. Enhance your painting and drawing skills by attending an Atelier workshop this year.

Botanical Drawing

​The Botanical Drawing Workshop will bring us into the inner world of plants, flowers and seeds. All living plants share characteristic growth patterns and have exquisite designs underlying their forms. We will use a sketchbook to do botanical studies and complete 1-2 drawings of a dynamic floral arrangement.

The Tenaya Technique

Learn how to use graphite and charcoal together to get rich darks and delicate lights, with a full range of values in between. Work from the model for two consecutive mornings with time and guidance to develop a full dynamic range of values in a large drawing. Learn drawing lessons of the Atelier Tradition, which are not taught in colleges and universities.​​

Summer Youth Atelier

Introducing our new teen program! In this intensive two week program, Matthew Fielder, Assistant teacher for the Core Atelier, will teach the fundamentals of excellent drawing with special focus on the portrait. Students will work from a live costumed model in the second week.

There is no better way to understand pigments than to make your own paints! Get hands-on experience with this historic technique. Egg Tempera paintings are more durable and luminous than oil paintings, and are sometimes described as a "mosaic of semi-precious gemstones." ​

Tenaya Sims, founder of Georgetown Atelier in Seattle, winner of Art Renewal Center's Saloon Competition in 2017, returns to Texas Hill Country Atelier. The nest workshop, yet to be announced, will be a topic in Imaginative Realism.
