TEXAS HILL COUNTRY ATELIER

Learn to draw and paint like the Old Masters
with our skills-based
studio art program.

Core Atelier Program

Many art schools and university programs no longer offer rigorous, skills-based instruction. The atelier tradition has more than 500 years of history in teaching the skills and techniques of representational drawing and painting.

If you are looking for serious training and individual guidance to strengthen your work, the Core Atelier Program offers a path for sustained artistic development while carrying these traditions of skill and technique forward.

Classes

Texas Hill Country Atelier offers ongoing classes for artists at a range of skill levels. Our classes provide focused instruction in drawing, painting, design, and other areas of representational art, with an emphasis on developing strong foundational skills.

Classes offer an opportunity to deepen your training, explore a particular area of study, or begin learning with us. You do not need to be enrolled in the Core Atelier Program to register.

Workshops

Texas Hill Country Atelier offers workshops, public talks, and demonstrations with nationally recognized artists, including Michael Mentler of The Society of Figurative Arts, Tenaya Sims of Georgetown Atelier, and Maureen Hyde, formerly of the Florence Academy of Art.

These opportunities bring artists and instructors from beyond the atelier into our community for focused study and new perspectives. Workshops are open to anyone seeking to develop their artistic skills and deepen their practice.

Open Studio Life Drawing

Artists have drawn and painted from live models for over 2,000 years, and for good reason. Drawing from life is one of the best ways to learn to see, strengthen observation, and develop the skills to draw and paint with greater confidence.

Regular practice from the live model challenges artists to work directly from observation and put their skills into practice. Join us on Saturdays for this age-old approach in an open studio setting. You do not need to be enrolled in the Core Atelier Program to participate. All are welcome.
