DYNAMIC COMPOSITION I & II
For the serious student who wants to deepen their understanding of Dynamic Symmetry and how the modern and Old Masters used design prinicples in their work
10 - Week Course
Overview
This class explores Golden Section design systems and the design programs that underlie masterworks throughout history. These systems and programs strengthen the artist’s intent or vision and create a kind of immersed poetry through subterranean geometry, rhythm, proportion, and movement.

Dynamic Composition I
The focus of Dynamic Composition I is Masterwork Analysis. Students analyze works by both modern and Old Masters to uncover the design systems and compositional processes underlying their work.
Through studio practice, students will construct these design systems using the traditional tools of compass, pencil, and straightedge, develop greater visual literacy of artworks, and understand how these principles enhance dynamic design.
Reproductions of masterworks for study will be provided by the instructor.
Dynamic Composition II
The focus of Dynamic Composition II is Still Life Design. Building on discoveries made in Dynamic Composition I, students apply these dynamic compositional principles to create intentional unity, rhythm, and energy within their own work.
Through rigorous still life practice in the studio and at home, students explore how these design programs influence direction and strengthen decision making within the creative process.
Each student will design and draw original still life arrangements using personal or studio objects.
Dynamic Composition I is a prerequisite for Dynamic Composition II
