"Myth Busting: How Appraisals Work"

Third Tuesday Talk lead by Lee Ann Whatley, principal appraiser of Appretiare LLC.

Lee Ann has extensive training through the International Society of Appraisals and brings thirteen years of fine art appraisal experience to the table. One of the biggest myths out there is that being an appraiser is like being on the Antiques Roadshow.  While big discoveries can be a glamorous aspect, appraisers are often dealing with people in deep grief or going significant life changes that require delicacy, privacy and inside knowledge of the IRS and legal systems. “I don’t need to hire an appraiser, I can just google it,” is a myth commonly heard amongst appraisers, however appraisers help you understand what kind of value is important and why and how that information is going to be used and by whom. Appraisers can save you a lot of headaches and disappointments down the road.  “I just want to know what it worth!” is never an easy demand.  Most of the time, when we get this request what they are really wanting to know is “What do I have?” The object must first be accurately identified. Got Questions?  Whatley will give you the What and the Who, Where, When and Why’s of appraisals and how they can help you.

"Is All Art Spiritual?"

Content and Meaning - IS ALL ART SPIRITUAL? This will be an open dialog seeking your input or you may just sit back and enjoy the conversation. We will explore the idea that all art is spiritual or is some art much ado about nothing? In the realm of art for art sake and art that refuses or defies traditional concepts of art making, process and purpose are confusing and contradictory. Is this an irreconcilable dilemma!? Please join us for whatever it is.

Kerr Love Project

Lead by arts responders, who are holding space for those affected by the July 4th floods to come together in a meaningful act of creation. Guided by our team of trained art therapists, participants will hand-shape ceramic tiles that will become part of the final public mural in Kerrville.

This process is grounded in neuroscience and offers a trauma-informed expressive arts practice: the tactile rhythm of working with clay supports regulation of the nervous system, connection to others, and gentle emotional processing. In making something with our hands, we engage memory, presence, and care — offering a pathway to honor grief, express support for our Hill Country neighbors, and participate in a shared story of resilience.

No art experience is necessary.

Just come as you are.

Your presence matters here.
