Landscape Painting
Classes with Roger Parsons
Fall Term
FUNDAMENTALS OF LANDSCAPE PAINTING
This class will focus on simplifying the complexities of landscape painting to its essential elements.

Since light from the sun is constantly changing in both direction and color, we'll work from photos to "freeze" the light striking the earth. In this class, we will focus on primary elements: land, clouds, water, and snow.

We will use a double universal color palette (two yellows, two reds, and two blues, plus black and white). Students may bring their own photos or use photos provided by the instructor.

STUDIO LANDSCAPE PAINTING I and II
The Studio Landscape Painting Class will focus on painting one large scale landscape with the approach that professionals use. Roger will teach his process, step-by-step: all tools, techniques, and tips, starting with a pencil drawing that students will develop in class. You will learn his palette of warm and cool colors, how he mixes color-values, and how he applies paint to achieve a unified and harmonious scene. The class will focus on accurate perspective, composition, values, edges, and color.
Students may bring a photo of the scene they want to paint, or they may use enlarged photos provided by the instructor.

Roger teaches in the Atelier mentorship-style, meaning he will meet you where you are.
